[Accueil][D&D 5e] English Campaign - A new beginning

I really don't know for the "hp" things. I never played DD 5 so far but in DD 3.5 (and many people say 5e is a coming back toward 3.5e), your hit-points mattered a great deal when you were supposed to take hits. Now maybe you could but 2 points less in Cha and use it to get a nice 12 in wisdom? (If I'm right, you gain 4 points for going 16 to 14 Con, so you can up Wisdom from 8 to 12).


Another try for my stats (always the part were I take billion of years :p ):

Str 10
Dex 14
Con 12
Int 14
Wis 14
Cha 12.

If I wanna change this, I've got uneven numbers (would mean, for example, getting Str 10 and Con 9 or Str 9 and Con 10 so I can have Int 16 or Cha 14).
In my character concept (and I think, for the group), a high Int ain't so bad (and, if the DM doesn't only want us to cut things through, would be nice to have some intels about history, religion, Arcana, etc.).

By the way, here’s my list of stuff. I had a lot of fun imagining my character doing his pack! XD

Equipment: chain mail (AC16, Disadvantage), a longsword (1d8 (versatile 1d10)), a buckler (AC+2), a light crossbow + 20 bolts (1d8), Dungeonner pack, set of fine clothes, signet ring, scroll of pedigree, block&tackle (= poulies et cable (p. 151 PDF-142)), 20 caltrops (p. 151 PDF-142), climber’s kit, bedroll, grappling hook, healer’s kit (p. 151 PDF-142), manacles, mess kit, tent (2 persons), bullseye lantern, antitoxin, bolt case?? (carquois à carreaux), potion of healing.

Was just thinking that a warrior should be aware of its surrounding and, thus, would have more wisdom than the usual people. But it's nice that way too

Wow, i thought you get just one benefit. In fact subrace combine with the main race. That's op. This int 14 makes a lots of sense for a gnome rogue, especially if you are proficient with at least one int skill.

Generally speaking It's good to have a couple of good skills where you combine proficiency and a good stat boost. If you are proficient with athletics/str saving throws some strenght is worth it. If not it's a 1 point difference on a d20 roll.

I used to not neglect str with fighting type mostly to increase/not decrease damage roll. As far as I understand your fighting stat now is used both for to hit roll and damage. So you could be all about dex and deal the same damage.

For my own 12 in cha, I felt like the thief will have wis and proficiency in perception anyways, so why not gain something little for my social interaction?

Ultimately, there's always the cool factor, and I'm completely on board with that. Especially for races with some cool abilities like breath fire or make contraptions.

Still, con is boring

Cause yeah, you're right, as long as I use "finesse" weapons (rapier, dagger, short sword, etc.), I'll use my dex to hit and damage. So Str is useless, except for the Athletics skill.

When did you get so rich? The antitoxin and the healing potion alone are worth 50 gold apiece.

I'll switch CHA and CON. I needed to be more handsome than you two!

I also have a proficiency in a Skill to choose. I was hesitating between Stealth to compensate the Disadvantage of my armour, or Insight (SAG)/Perception (SAG)? (Insight/Perception, I'll have one granted by my class, I wanted to pick the one Felondra wouldn't have?) I thought about a CHA based one but I already have Persuasion, and I'm not interested in others so... é_è Unless you have an idea to create a CHA based skill that would be really useful??

No stealth for you. With no dex bonus and disadvantage you are more or less doomed to fail.

Insight is good to read people. If you are being all social it might be useful. Consider medicine as well.

Knowledge skills are good for hints, but they are all int based.

Still, it's like 200 gold worth of equipment, for a 75 gp budget (plus what your background pouch contains, which is 25 for you). Not that I don't want you to have it. But then I want my additional 100 gold.

You have only 2 good stats. If you want just persuasion in cha and get athletics already, you will have to pick something in your bad stats. Or lower one good stat a bit (going from 13 to 15 is quite expensive).

Lets face it: even our good skills give just a +5. So failure should happen on a regular basis.

Don't worry about the local's name... You can go from série names (http://www.behindthename.com/random/) to silly one... I'll do Both with the NPCs... Tremble before lord sracthillious backsalot, kobald archmage

People gave me many names during my career: Aaargh, Run, Mercy please, Not him again...

For the skill, I was planning on taking both insight and perception so...

About the name (for myself and the company), it'll come today or tomorrow (I have a lot of work for school to do, so maybe the background will be for later this week-end... but I think about it, just need to time to write it down in a nicely way in english, which takes me more time than in french of course!)

But if we knew each other before, Kami, why didn't our characters decided to create the company together and, then, sorted out a name together?


For my background, Mister, is it possible (to justify that I keep the advantages of beeing in a big guild) that I've got an agreement with the Merchant's? Like I was in their guild, managed to get out in order to create my own guild but trade with them in priority when I got things they may want?
Or, other possibility (but I need the agreement of all): could we be a "sub-guild" in the merchant's one? Like a department or something? So they would fund us (materialized, for example, by my "guild artisan" advantages) and we've got a bit of freedom to do what we think is good as long as we bring results (-> new "technologies" based on the creature-pieces and artifacts we find on adventure)?
Would it be ok for you two, Akanon and Kami?

A: i prefer the first option... Funding? Not happening right now...

OK, let's think of the name together.
At that time I was down. My father was killed for fallacious reasons (If I have an opportunity one day to duel one of the responsibles, or all, I'll take it!), his legacy withering and dying.
I was sad and angry about the world, I had accepted that my dad wouldn't come back but I wanted to clear his name, save his legacy...
We spoke (probably around several ales) a lot, and that guild idea emerged (or, you convinced me to join you in your venture as a way to show the world the absolute superiority of my father's legacy, and through it his named would be associated with greatness).
What's your part of the guild-building story? We might find a good name out of it! n_n

What I imagine is that I arrived in Baldur's gate searching for adventures (and quite cut from my gnomish origins cause I was too adventurous to their taste etc.). But the city's rough, the adventure's not as much to the program as I expected and I end up selling my engineering's-talents to the merchants.

Some years later (many, like 30 or 40, gnomes live long), I meet you: a young human full of hope and shiny dreams. Maybe I met you young, when your father was regularly coming for gears, blades, etc. knowing of my talents for other things than lock'n clock. Maybe even I was a friend of your father, bacause I appreciated his sense of a good-quality equipment, of searching for new things, new fighting-styles, new weapons, etc.

Then he dies and I feel some obligation towards you (your father asked me to care about you?), ready to smoothen your sorrow as I smoothened my dreams so many years before... but you don't break in sorrow, you stand up, you rise even, the death of your father giving fuel to your spirits in spite of destroying them as the city hard life had cut my fuel for dreams so many years ago.

So we dream together, one (drunk) night, of going on the road again, cut from the city-bonds and the guild-ties. And we decide to launch our own organization, our own guild, a guild of dreamers, a guild of discoverers, a guild for those who seak endlessly... Something like that?

Another question: what year is it at the start of the campaign? Cause I'm interested in Lantan as a goal for our (my) researchs: a highly-technologic gnomish island, wanting to give peace to the world? That's for me

Wouldn't it be better if you had a reason of your own as well to create a guild?
I don't know how you pictured the personality of your gnome, but I didn't figured a bond that tight.

If we decided of the name during a drunk night, and if we do it for fame, we have to give it a super pretentious, grand-sounding too long name! XD

Find a short world and then give a sense to each letter.

Ex: GOLD - Guild of Legendary Delvers

Well, ok, I let myself go but... it's part of the DD tone to have that king of stories (blockbusters, here we come!), doesn't it?


I think the reason I gave for my character is enough : I'm living the dream too, going back on adventures that I shouldn't have stoped

Now it was all an inspiration, I don't have much planned at the moment (except the "arrived at Baldur's Gate, didn't find adventure, settled down in the Merchant's guild" thing). I want to find how do we click together, the daddy part seemed nice to me, maybe I just pushed it a bit too far

So we keep that? I met your father cause he wanted me to create gears and stuff, he brought you along from time to time to show you the ropes and we grew more familiar after his death, until we decided to create a guild and go on adventure? (It's logical to me, put in those terms, to create a guild cause it makes us a "public" organization, allows to get known more easily, etc.)
