What kind of info is needed, as "character concept"?
I don't know much about the rules, but I'd be interested in having a character who's got (in combat) not too many but interesting tactical options. What would you advise?

March 11th or 18th are perfectly fine for me.
On Feb the 20th it s more difficult for me to join but I could try to make it.

I ve got in mind to play a Cleric of Tyr (if this god is not dead yet).

Ready to settle myself in the city of Baldur's Gate :-) if the other players agree.

A: Imagine what your character is, in least than 20 words, how would you quickly descrive him to someone else?
Ex. My Moon elf rogue/priest in the other game: He is an explorer who uses magic and his knowledge to escape the traps that life presents him...
A great way that i always start my characters is looking for some character concept arts on google... "rogue archer"..."orc fighter"... and i start from there

A: Since you guys are a 'rising' guild/faction and you want everyone to know your name, you can choose the city which will host you, among the following Sword Coast options: Neverwinter, Baldur's Gate or Waterdeep.

I don't know about the guild part: i really want to go on a mighty quest for epic loot. If we spend half of the time in town speaking to npc looking for powerful patrons, fighting in the streets againts rival gangs and striving for rep, again, there's games for that.

The only thing I want to go to towns for are: info, supplies, hired help. Baldur's gate would be nice.

As a character I think a fighting type. Based on my knowledge of the 5th edition I think a human barbarian will work the best. Something like that:

Jori the Berserker who seeks worthy opponents to defeat and powerful weapons to defeat even stronger opponents. Hi went on adventure to find the legendary weapon called by his people the all-slaying axe that is supposed to be able to wound even the most powerful creatures. (i will adjust based on background benefits I want)

So this would cover the tanking part. With a scout (rogue, ranger...) and a crowd controller (mage, bard...) we would be well set.

Aaahh... I was interested in being a Battle Master, after looking at how you play it. And the scout part would be covered by Felondra.
I really don't feel like a bard, and magic means 800 spells you have to choose in advance and... And I wanted to fight sword & buckler style!! ^^'

P.S : about dates, I'm not here from the 27th till the 13th (included). And it is written "weekends" but I prefer weeks (including Fridays)... though I can do weekends too, but not as often.

A: Again, you'll have to trust me... I tend to min the "off of adventure" part of the game ( since d&d is hack, slash, loot), but not all battles are won by muscle...

R: Good news then... You can still be a battle master AND the scout or the controler... Just chose the right skills and background... And take a look also in the college of blades for the bard... OR be a human something else ang get the feat that gives you 2 manouvers from the battle master... Or go multiclass... Kkk there's a LOT of ways to go... Rogue swashbuckler, wizard bladesinger...

OK for a battle master (once I reach level 3 ^^') that will be a controller, then. I was thinking with a sword and buckler look, or if there's a huge gap in efficiency, two weapon wielding.
All the options you talked about show that you know your game well, but this is not my case. I'm not used to that kind of RPGs (I want to learn about it), so I'll need a little help in building. ^^'
My first and only other attempt at it, I ended up having a character cool, but not optimized at all ^^' (and all the cool in my head vanished in play).

About the weekend, I tell you tomorrow.

A: Yeah, that happens a lot, that's why there's a "dm guideline" Which suggests to the DM, it allows players to recreate their characters until level 3, if they so wish.

I trust you. I know, i'm being pushy, but i'm trying to make my expectations clear. So people can tell me if they want to play the same game or if they have something very different in mind. And if so, think of a proper middle ground before playing.

I don't expect to solve all the problems through the fight. I intend to solve problems that are solvable through a fight. Or an intimidation check (it's my character's "social" part). I leave the rest to the group.

I'm not thinking of a reckless murderer either. I see him in a monster hunting group for example. Something obviously dangerous that normal people would like to get rid of but not want to risk their lives in the process.

19-20 march will be ok for me (not the 18). I'm fully available from the 25th of March until 17th of April (I'm a student, in another town, that's why it's not possible for me to play at other time than weekends... But I'm on holidays from 25/03 till 17/04 )


For the city, I don't know the first thing about forgotten realms (I played DD3.5 and DD4, in Eberron). So let it be Baldur's Gate (I had the game a loooong time ago, never went too far but it's funny to go back there ).

I'd say I'm a lore-seeker. I don't have any gift or faculty to use magic, instead I'll use my wits, guts and (non)sense of danger to get away from the trouble I get myself into. Really go for Indiana Jones inspiration, maybe less the "PhD" part

Ah, other thing: do you intend to play fights on tabletop? They say on the Internet it's still possible but no longer required, so I wonder...?

I personnaly prefer to play without miniatures but if you intend to do so, I'll be pleased to create one for my character (and for others if they don't feel like it )

Well, use magic device is not a thing anymore, but starting lvl 3 you can become arcane trickster if it's your jazz.

I picked Baldur's Gate because my first contact with d&d was it's namesake game. Pick baldur's gate enchanced edition on the next steam sale: the game is worth your while.

Question: is it possible/is there any advantage to pick skill proficiency twice (from background and class)? I thought there was one but can't really figure this out now.

R: i'm not a huge grid fan, and mostly we'll not use then... BUT in some cases it'll be necessary so we create the right atmosphere... So yeah if you guys wanna make one miniature go ahead...

19 would be OK for me. 20 if really have to (but afternoon OR evening, whenever I won't be here longer than 4-ish hours).
If you spoke about March, 18-19-20 would be fine, under same conditions.

My father was one of the most respected sword master of [the country/kingdom]. He got famous, taught to the best in high society, got to marry a young girl from a minor noble family in Baldur (as it seems to be the place ^^) and opened his own school of swordsmanship.
However, he was not used to politics and power games, and fell victim of the foul plot of some petty noblemen he probably offended somehow. He was accused and convicted of treason and executed.
His school, though not officially barred from activity bore his name and then fell in disgrace as well. With almost no student and almost no resource (the students remaining not being the richest ones), the school had to close its doors.
My ambition is to prove the utmost superiority of my father’s style to the world (I am convinced it is the best one ever), so that its reputation of unmatchable style spreads, the school reopens and daughter schools open throughout the [country/kingdom], and its name survives through History. (For my father, I ended up acknowledging I cannot do anything for him, but the style bearing his name (as it is mine as well) , indirectly it will restore his reputation as the greatest swordsman ever).

I am definitely not a fan of moving miniatures 9.457723cm per round either, clearly. Not in tabletop RPGs, I mean.
But drawing a map when needed to help everyone picture the same scene, and having tokens/figs/change coins to help locate things, yeah I’m OK with it.

A: No, by rule you can only got the skill once and then you add only once the bigger bonus ( and this rules Goes to everything... Armor... Iniciative... Attack and damage etc). If your class give you a skill, let's say perception for example, and then your background gives you the same skill you can chose a new skill. When you chose one skill you add your proficience bonus plus your modifier from the ability (
Dex for example)

R: No, it's perfect just liket that! I will help you filling some spots ( location, nobles name etc) but now create the family name and then the character by itself...

OK, so now we have to found the middle ground on the date issue.

As akanon, kami and i can play on the 18, 19 or 20, it's up to felondra or kyllian to help US... For me saturday we could play for a longer time Without having to worry about time... But as kyllian can on the 18 and felondra only on 19 or 20 we have an impass... Kyllian can you play on the 19? Or 20? Or can you try to arrive at the 18 ( starting at 19:00) felondra?

For the others: i'm making a wilderness oriented guy. I take athletics, animal handling, survival and intimidation as well as a couple of monster languages (orc and goblin). I should be able to provide food during the travels.

Once I'm finished I will send the background. It will be shrot, but enough to start.
